THE STAR PROJECT

After having run the pilot project for the month of April 2024, TIES launched The STAR project in
June 2024 -a structured day programme which incorporates Skill Training, Art & Recreation for
young adults with intellectual disabilities for ages above 16 years. The sessions are held at
TIES STAR CENTRE, Porvorim, Goa under the guidance of a Special Educator who is the
Project Coordinator- Joycelyn Mendonca, an Assistant teacher, and a Helper. There is a core
team from TIES overseeing the project : Project Lead – Elizabeth Kurian, Project ConsultantMariah Lobo (Clinical Psychologist), Parent- Sasmita S. Akhtar.

Products made by Stars under The STAR Project

The art work is done by our Stars on canvas using acrylic paints.
We use different techniques like spray painting, paper bleeding, balloon printing, vegetable printing, leaf printing, sponge printing, stencilling etc. The pictures with a code is for reference. Each product is available in different colours and patterns.

TIES Pop Up Events

The “Spread the Joy” Christmas Bazaar and competitions 2024 were held at Art Park in Porvorim, Goa. TIES put up an array of products made by its Stars under the guidance of their mentor Teacher Joycelyn. The event was inaugurated by Tourism Minister Mr.Rohan Khaunte.

The unique Jackfruit festival Ponsachem fest was held in Panjim in June 2024. TIES did not miss the opportunity to put up its products on display for sale!

To celebrate diversity and inclusion in the art space, Museum of Goa (MOG) in partnership with the Department of Empowerment for Persons with Disabilities, Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of Goa, EnAble India and International Purple Fest Goa , organized the ‘Art Inc.’ exhibition 2024 which featured 47 leading and aspiring Goa-based artists with disabilities.

TIES was honoured to be part of this exhibition. Three artworks – Printing Hope, Our Colorful Sky, Starry Days, done by the TIES Collective at the STAR project were showcased for this exhibition. The artists were Anwesh S. Akhtar, Ashwin Joseph, Shane DMello and Naina Rodrigues.

NoMoZo - 6 Porvorim 2025

No Mo Zo i.e. the non motor able zone,  annual one day event takes place in Porvorim, Goa and TIES had its Pop Up stall amidst all the excitement induced by the variety of zones.

DOSTI EVENINGS

DOSTI(Developing Opportunities for Socialisation, Togetherness and Inclusion) a Hindi word
which means “friendship” is an emotion deeply associated with people with intellectual
disabilities as they perpetually long for affection and acceptance. Hence the evening sessions at
the STAR Project aim to instill this feeling of togetherness through recreational and socialization
sessions , art, games, dance and snack making with the Divya Sadan community

DOSTI OUTINGS- Walk in the city; Chill on a beach; Visit to a supermarket; Relax in parks; Learn to dine with etiquette at restaurants; Learn to shop at the Mall; Explore the Science Park, Get a feel of the Art Gallery, Enjoy a Ferry ride- Held once a month along with the Divya Sadan community
